Yahoo bids good-bye to Messenger for Windows Vista

October 24th, 2008 | 8 Comments | Posted in Software

The optimized version of Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista will no longer be developed by Yahoo. Messenger for Vista was one of the earliest ‘Vista-centric’ programs in the market.

“Moving forward we encourage Vista users to download our full-featured Yahoo Messenger 9.0 client, which is compatible with XP and Vista,” Yahoo’s Karlsten said. He also said, “This decision will help Yahoo increase efficiencies and deliver one consistent, full-featured solution for Windows users–whether they are using XP or Vista.”

Yahoo’s investment in developing the application will not go as a waste though. As per Yahoo, since Messenger for Vista was based on the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), the knowledge gathered from this will eventually help in the further development of future versions of this hugely popular IM program.

I guess this move is another example of Vista’s failure to solidify itself in the industry.
