XBox360 to have the most ambitious system update yet

November 18th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Microsoft, Software

Microsoft will roll out their most prominent system update for their flagship gaming console, XBox 360. The biggest change will be the console’s User Interface. This event officially called “The New XBox experience” will also introduce several other new features – “most notably an avatar system to represent users online and the addition of streaming video content from Netflix, similar to that offered by the Roku Netflix settop box.”

One feature which would really stand out is the new Netflix viewer which is very similar to the Roku Netflix Player.

“The setup is similar to other settop boxes that work with Netflix, requiring you to log into the Netflix Web site from a computer and tie your account to that particular Xbox. Clicking on the Netflix box in the Video Marketplace row brings up all the item in your Netflix queue, and you can flip through the box covers with the Xbox controller.”

Why does this remind me of Apple??

The Avatar system is praiseworthy. The characters are large and have prominent features. Overall, pretty catchy.

How the new update is going to turn out is hard to say now. Hopefully we will understand the acceptance within a week of the release.
