Google launches fully unlocked Android developer phone

December 6th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Gadgets

Google officially launches the unlocked Android phone exclusively for the developers called Android Dev Phone 1. The device is completely carrier neutral and is “completely unlocked for both its SIM card slot and hardware features to let users test the device on other GSM networks, including AT&T.

The phone features the original HTC configuration and includes the GPS, 3 MP camera and Wi-Fi, although there is no information whether the 3G is available outside the T-mobile network. “The black design also sports a unique back engraving with a fractal-like pattern and the Android logo.

It should be noted that this official unlocked version is targeted for developers only, so that they don’t face any restrictions to run/develop any applications. Even if you are an Android developer, you need to pay the one-time $25 registration fee. The phone itself is priced as $399 and is limited to one per developer.
