Open Handset Alliance adds 14 new companies

Open Source is the future, there is no doubt about it. With open source software active in almost every desktop on this planet, it seems the world has officially accepted the power of this saga. Just to make things better, the Open Handset Alliance has just announced the addition of 14 new members in the group. Google’s Android is the flagship software of the alliance which itself is an open source mobile operating system, and competes against other mobile platforms from Microsoft, Apple, Nokia, Palm, Research In Motion and Symbian.
Incase you are not aware of the Open Handset Alliance, it is a “business alliance of 48 firms including Google, HTC, Intel, Motorola, Qualcomm, Samsung, LG, T-Mobile, Nvidia and Wind River Systems to develop open standards for mobile devices.”
The new additional members are:

- ASUSTek Computer Inc.
- Atheros Communications
- Borqs
- Ericsson
- Garmin International Inc.
- Huawei Technologies
- Omron Software Co. Ltd
- Softbank Mobile Corporation
- Sony Ericsson
- Teleca AB
- Toshiba
- Vodafone
These companies are all set to develop new platforms, both hardware and software, based on the Google Android OS.
