Intel unveils Atom for Mobile phones

Intel Atom has been the biggest success since the Pentium processors, no surprises there. This time the world’s largest chip maker takes things one step further, it unveiled the Atom Z500 processors dedicated to mobile phones. Targeted also at small embedded devices, the package integrates both graphics and the I/O controller hub into a single chip. Four different processors will be launched ranging from 1.1 Ghz to 1.6 Ghz core speeds.

As Intel explains, “Based on 45nm Hi-k next generation Intel® Core™ microarchitecture, these processors implement ground-breaking power management techniques making them ideal for thermally constrained and fanless embedded applications“.
