The colors remind us of parade floats but these are meant to be on the streets everyday. What you see are passenger vehicles which simply don’t look colorful and extraordinary but are made of  90% bamboo and run on coconut biodiesel. Introduced recently by Rustico Balderian, mayor of Tabontabon in Phillipines, the measure was taken so as to replace the pricey, fuel consuming, environment polluting, regular transportation with a more eco-friendly solution.

These two bamboo made taxis are called the Eco 1 and Eco 2 with the former having a 20 people capacity and the latter 8. With a gallon of biodiesel these are supposed to run for about 80 hours. Covered in colorful woven mats called “banig”, the thought of such vehicles does feel relieving. Hope to see more of these bamboo [ a renewable material] vehicles in other cities too.
