China surpasses US in overall Auto sales for the first-half of 2009

China has finally surpassed the US in auto sales (atleast) for the first half of 2009. Sales have been 36.5% higher than previous year for the same time period. Total sales in China was a whopping 6.1 million vehicles which is much higher than the 4.8 million in USA.
Ironically, the biggest winner in sales was the General Motors in China, whose sale jumped by 38% this year. It is a pity that GM failed in its own country. Even Ford reported that their sales were up by atleast 14% this year.
