Microsoft to offer Windows 7 upgrade to students for just $30

We are not sure whether this is an effort to compete with Apple’s latest Snow Leopard launch or to reduce the impact of Ubuntu/Linux, Microsoft is coming up with a strategy to penetrate into the massive student market. This is actually a smart move considering that most students here in US as well as the UK fall in love with the Mac OS X, while some on the nerd-ier side are slowly embracing Linux. Now all they have to is just pay $30 to get the upgrade version of Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional.
This offer is also valid in the following countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Korea and Mexico, but with a slightly different price tag. As per Microsoft, an exposure to Windows 7 will allow students to make the best use of touch screens and netbooks, and to make the experience simpler and more fun to use.
