Finally a colored eBook Reader, this time from Qualcomm

Too many companies seem to be working on their eBook Readers. Although Amazon started the movement with their Kindle, it is no longer the only company on board. But whatever new eBook Readers you will see, all have one thing in common. They all have a B&W / monochrome display. The e-Ink technology requires it to be so, well…until now. Welcome the Mirasol display from Qualcomm. Although the technology is not new and has been there for a while, this is the first time the company is using it in eBook readers.
The device will include a full-color 5.7-inch display with a decent XGA (1024 x 768 ) resolution, that will not only support images but videos as well. Best part…it will give (almost) the same battery life as any monochrome display. “The company recently won a Wall Street Journal prize for innovation, based on the fact that the mirasol technology is a completely fresh and unique approach to displays, rather than trying to eke color out of e-ink or ween LCD or OLED off their hefty power supplies.“ Availability will be sometime towards the end of 2010.
