A quick look at Google Chrome OS

Today was Google’s Chrome OS announcement day. Until now, it seemed to be something unknown in the dark. Company co-founder Sergey Brin was there to kick-off the event. After that the Engineering team took over and explained the objective of the OS and how it works. Obviously…because not too many people have heard about a web based OS before. The key feature of the OS is that it will only run web apps.

The browser is the heart of the OS. No apps get installed or updated…and you will need the browser to run them all. HTML5 will be the primary mode of communication between the system resources and the OS. One notable feature is that hard disk drives will not be supported. Solid state drives only!

As per Google, the OS is meant only for netbooks, not desktops.
