Solar powered stadium in Taiwan

Have a look at this awesome stadium in Taiwan. Barring the looks, it is the largest solar powered stadium in the world which was a host to the 2009 World Games this July.The stadium generates 100% electricity from photovoltaic technology with a capacity to produce 1.14 gigawatt hours of electricity every year. The 14,155m² roof is covered with 8844 solar panels which helps in the illumination of the track and the field with 3,300 lux. The entire lighting system of the stadium takes just about 6 minutes to power up.

The construction also involves green features like permeable paving and the extensive use of reusable and local made materials.Situated in Kaohsiung,Taiwan this environment friendly 50,000 capacity stadium has been designed by architect Toyo Ito.
