Finally an eBook Reader that lets you both read and write

January 8th, 2010 | 2 Comments | Posted in Hardware

eBook Readers are the future. People have readily accepted the idea and now many manufacturers have joined the bandwagon to get their own versions. But Samsung has come up with something that is completely new. Their new eBook Reader (available as E6 and E101), is not just another e-ink based reading device, it is also a full-fledged writing pad! The device uses “electromagnetic resonance” to allow drawing/writing on the screen. It also has a large 10-inch screen (for E101) similar to that of the Kindle DX.

It also supports PDF and ePub files. One thing that needs to be noted is that you cannot use fingers on the screen, the stylus is mandatory. On the good side, the device is reported to be very responsive and allows you to use the stylus almost like a real pencil. The only bummer…the E6 and E101 do not support 3G, so all content needs to be downloaded using Wi-Fi.

Price? $400 to $700 (estimated), depending on the model.

Availability? Early 2010.
