iPhone still rules in touchscreen accuracy and response

January 11th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Hardware

By now you must have lost track of all the capacitive touchscreen mobile phones that have been released by various manufacturers. Some of the most popular ones would be the iPhone, HTC Eris, Motorola Droid and the recently released Google Nexus One. Since all of them are powered by a fairly robust OS (i.e. Android and iPhone OS), the question now is who has a better touchscreen experience overall. As per MOTO, a company that develops products for start-up companies, the iPhone is still the best when it comes to touch-screen accuracy and response.

MOTO explains that to achieve the ideal touch screen experience, the phone has to have the correct integration of software, hardware and the UI. The company performed a line test which would show how straight/smooth the lines are when you draw on the screen using your fingers. Superior screens showed straight lines while the inferior screens showed rather zig-zag ones. The reason? As per MOTO, it can be any of the following…”the sensor size is too big, the touch-sampling rate is too low, and/or the algorithms that convert gestures into images are too non-linear to faithfully represent user inputs.” Overall, as per the test, iPhone was the best performer (albeit its sensitivity issues across the screen edges), Google Nexus One was decent while the worst accuracy was that of the Droid.
