Stalac Coffee Table, a design inspired by natural stalactites

January 11th, 2010 | 4 Comments | Posted in Design, Environment

Nature amazes and inspires us all. Whether be it the way it balances itself or the flora-fauna it possesses or the bright and beautiful colors and topography it provides, we get inspired by each and every part of it. We had previously seen how flower inspired designers to create lamps like Arum or Bloom while tree and beehive structure into bookshelf and lamps respectively; we now have a furniture piece precisely a coffee table that reminds us of the stalactites found in caves.

It is the Stalac Coffee Table which “is based on the idea of taking a rectangular section from a cave ceiling and using the Stalactites as the table legs”. This table will be a part of an exhibit in Toronto Interior Design Show, IDS 10 to be held on 21st -24th January 2010. This is a creation from The Practice Of Everyday Design.

This design it brings back memories of being underground visiting caves. The way that it moves from the organic shaped underside and legs to the straight lines of the top make me feel like it has just been cut from a cave and placed in the image. Also the way the the image works with the ‘clean’ white of the table and the ‘dirty’ grey of the concrete wall behind. Just lush.
