Microsoft sells a massive 60 million Windows 7 copies, makes over $19 billion in a quarter

Things finally started falling in the right place for the Redmond giant. After selling a massive 60 million copies of the latest version of Windows a.k.a. Windows 7, Microsoft claims to have its best quarter ever. After all $19.02 billion in revenues in just 3 months is no joke. This is 14% higher than last year’s performance for the same period. 60 million in a quarter is the highest ever for any commercial software, and definitely for any operating system.
In contrast to that Windows Vista sold 40 million copies in the first four months but took a major downturn when people realized the innumerable flaws the OS had. Windows 7 is a different story. Reliability, speed, stability, hardware compatibility and superb overall user interface made the OS an instant success. The OS was also the biggest-grossing pre-order product of all-time in Amazon’s history…and obviously for a reason.
