Free Ovi Maps downloaded over 1.4 million times in 2 weeks, becomes an instant success

Who doesn’t want free stuff? And that too if the product is of good quality…there are no second thoughts, for sure. Here’s a great example. Nokia announced that Ovi Maps is available for free on 21st Jan 2010, and in just two weeks time, the application has been downloaded over 1.4 million times worldwide. Obviously this is something even Nokia never expected.

Nokia made the application available for free for a reason. The company desperately needed to compete with Google Maps in order to survive. And it looks like their prayers have been answered well. As per Anssi Vanjoki, Executive Vice President, Nokia, “We’re averaging a download a second, 24 hours a day”, which is obviously a huge number.
