Microsoft said that the company will introduce anti-piracy updates for Windows 7, that will close more than 70 activation hacks to prevent hackers from counterfeiting the OS. Called the Windows Activation Technologies Update, the patch will be available as early as February 16th. According to Joe Williams, general manager of Microsoft’s Genuine Windows unit, this update will even periodically check with a server for pending vulnerabilities, but it will not send any personal information related to the user.

In case the user’s Windows 7 copy is found not to be genuine, the update will allow the user to buy a valid copy immediately or at a later date. The update will be downloadable from Microsoft Genuine website and Microsoft Download center.
