Intel and Nokia combine forces to make MeeGo and to take on Android

Android is spreading fast, really fast. The current world no. 1 mobile OS a.k.a. Symbian doesn’t really have a chance. Nokia understands that and tried its luck with the Maemo 5. Not that Maemo 5 is bad, but lets face it…it is hard to compete with the already popular Android. And now Intel wants to join Nokia in this battle. The two companies plan to create a new mobile platform called the MeeGo - a powerful combination of Maemo and Moblin.
The mobile OS will have the best of both worlds and “is to be constructed from the best bits of Maemo and Moblin: Nokia and Intel’s existing Linux-based platforms respectively”. The new OS will be targeted to several areas, namely netbook, smartphones, in-vehicle entertainment, connected TVs and video/media phones.
