Over 50,000 iPads pre-ordered in just 2 hours, Apple.com crashes for a while

It seems that almost 50,000 iPads were sold in just two hours from Apple.com. Although this number is not yet concrete, it was reported that two iPads ordered 30 minutes apart “reflected Order IDs that were about 10,000 apart”. That’s massive! At this rate the number of sales might even surpass a few hundred thousand by the end of the day.
The Apple.com website even crashed for a while in the morning because of the high volume of traffic. There was a limit of two iPads per customer and “Based on Twitter chatter during the morning hours today, plenty of people admitted to placing orders for two iPads.” Steve Jobs…classic Friday night?
