The iPad sales currently exceed the 600,000 mark

As per the estimates from Chitika Research, an on-line advertising network which runs on over 80,000 websites world-wide, the current iPad sales may have exceeded the 600,000 mark. This estimate is based on the unique iPads connecting to the Chitika advertisement network. The company is currently putting the stats in real-time and seems to be fairly confident on the numbers. In fact Chitika says, that their estimate may be more accurate that Apple’s itself.

California seems to be the leading state in terms of total sales, followed by Texas and New York.

The methodology of calculation followed, as per Chitika:
- We count how many new, unique iPads we see coming through the Chitika advertising network
- We multiply that by how much of the Internet we see at any given time to figure out how many iPads in total are out there
- We  look at where iPad traffic is coming from by state

Although it is still less than the original 700,000 mark as predicated by analysts, we ‘estimate’ Steve Jobs should be happy anyway!
