Samsung planning on Android-based TVs

April 27th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Hardware

If you think Android is just tied to mobile phones, then you are wrong…dead wrong. Being open source and free has its own added benefits. It lets more manufacturers tweak the system and make the OS work flawlessly on almost any electronic devices worthy of running it. Now Samsung is also seen to be readying Android-based HDTVs a.k.a. Google TV. Sony has showed interest in this matter and is already working with Google.

Internet-based HDTVs are becoming popular and will allow web browsing and accessing any information anytime. This will eventually reach a very high level of interactivity, if not as much as a computer. In short….internet enabled TVs are the future. Market research firm iSupply estimates that the total number of internet enabled TVs will reach over 87 million units by 2013. Also, at least 60% of all flat panel TVs in North America will be internet-enabled by the same time.

Overall, running a full-fledged OS and enabling internet access/interactivity on the TV will give Samsung the added advantage required over its competitors.
