HP secretly working on a Palm webOS-based tablet, code named Hurricane

May 10th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Hardware

It is known that HP’s original plan to release a Windows 7 based tablet may have been scraped. Instead the company is rumored to be working on a webOS-based tablet, which is estimated to be released as early as this summer! After the recent takeover of Palm by HP, most people speculated something similar would happen, and it looks like it may be true. Examiner received this tip from a HP employee itself. The device is code named Hurricane.

As per Examiner, “An insider at HP tells us that a webOS tablet under the code name HP Hurricane could be released the third quarter of this year.” It is also being speculated that Hurricane will feature an ARM processor instead of an Intel Atom. If true, these ‘moves’ from HP obviously signify the importance of battery life in a tablet device. Realistically to compete with the Apple iPad, HP must launch a device which gives at least 8 or more hours of battery life. The iPad’s 10+ hours battery life is a serious challenge and is definitely hard to beat.
