I think the statement “a kettle in a mug“ has partially solved the problem that you had been facing regarding the “KUG” name. As mentioned in the quoted line, the KUG is a kettle and a mug built into one, giving you the opportunity to brew your drink right then and there without the need of a separate kettle. Designed by Ben Millett and Alan Harrison [students at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin], the idea of such a unique vessel popped up when they repeatedly found elderly people having arthritis, had problems of lifting the kettle and pouring from it.
So after a lot of research work they designed KUG that not only heats water in about a minute and a half but is also easy to handle. KUG actually consists of two cups that can fit into one another. The outer container is fitted with a heating filament at the base, to be connected with the power supply. The inner one is used to hold the liquid which can be separated and washed. This particular design has won the Arthritis Ireland Easy to Use Design Award. For more on this visit thekug.com.
