How about walking on the pavement to light up the streets?

The more you move about, the better it is for your body. In journals, newspapers and magazines, umpteen times you might have come across the benefits of regular exercise for a healthy body. Whether be it walking, jogging or even dancing, each step has a magical effect. Well here’s another way each step of yours can benefit the environment. Research is being carried out to enable foot-powered street lighting system. In short, the technology involves a pavement on which when someone walks by, it can produce energy for powering up the street lights. Doesn’t this sound cool?
The special modules for harnessing energy in this manner were first used in nightclubs. These were introduced by Dutch company Sustainable Dance Club. Realizing the potential of the technology, these SDC modules with micro-sensors were put to test in the streets of Toulouse, France. The immediate result hadn’t much of a spark because to produce enough energy one had to jump on it. Hence developments were being made on the prototype that could function by simple walking. As of now some bustling public venues are being considered for trial of the new model.
