Microsoft Office is now available in SkyDrive, now competes directly with Google Docs

June 8th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Microsoft

Just when you thought that Microsoft’s attempt of taking Office online is a failure when compared to Google Docs, the Redmond giant releases the all new Office Web Apps for SkyDrive (the company’s online storage). The new Office.microsoft.com is now available for all users in US, UK, Canada, and Ireland. The online app is not just for your desktop. Microsoft claims it to be the “best productivity experience across the PC, phone, and browser”. One thing that will surprise you the most is that, all the apps i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote work amazingly well in all the major browsers like Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera.

Microsoft obviously realizes that the best way to win more users is to honor all the web standards, which the company quite successfully executed. The sleek interface and real-time multi-user support (which Google Docs always had though) is definitely interesting. Overall, it is definitely a solid alternative to Google Docs.
