Floppy Disk cherishes a Second Life

June 25th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Design, Hardware, Life

Technology is moving at a fast pace. Consequently gadgets and devices are rapidly turning obsolete which is resulting in piling up of discarded stuff. People are trying to find ways in dealing with the situation, one of which is allowing the product to have a ‘second life’. As obvious from the above picture we are referring to one of the yesteryear’s storage device, the floppy disk. Artist Nick Gentry has used a collection of them to interpret his thoughts and imagination in variable hues.

Sometime he takes advantage of the features of a floppy disk  in highlighting his creation, while in some he prefers tweaking. Prominent in his creations is the use of the metal circular disk as a metaphor for eyes. He even likes to use the floppy disk in conjunction with the other obsolete media, the cassette tape.
