Microsoft kills the Kin in just 2 months since its launch
Microsoft’s much publicized Kin has its fate sealed. The company recently announced that it will no longer manufacture this new line of mobile phones. And it has been just over two months since its launch. Kin was targeted to a younger crowd and focused more on social networking and media. Obviously with the current competition from Apple and Google’s Android, it clearly didn’t have a chance and failed miserably in sales.
Kin ran on a “close cousin” of Windows Mobile 7, an OS Microsoft is still currently working on and hopes to compete directly with Android and iOS. Most analysts believe that launching a mobile phone with a half-baked mobile OS, as in the case of Kin, was a fundamental failure. Hopefully the Redmond-giant learned its lesson and will continue focusing on the upcoming Windows Mobile 7. Well, as they say…”Failure is the pillar of success”. Better luck next time.
