Animal waste lights up street lamps
One of the parks in Massachussetts recently introduced a methane digester in its grounds. The purpose was to power up a lamp. Curious to know what so many doggies are doing at the scene? What else but it’s the dog’s poo that is going to keep the lamp lighted. That is what the Project ‘The Park Spark’ is all about. It allows the conversion of the dog’s poo [which otherwise would have released methane into the atmosphere upon disintegration] into the much needed light energy with a simple mechanism.
All that the owners need to do is discard their beloved pet’s poo [using biodegradable bags] in the methane digester via a tube and then rotate a hand-crank. The rest is taken care of by itself. The Park Spark Project also hopes into utilizing the heat and light produced in this way for other public ventures as well. “Conceptual artist Matthew Mazzotta came up with the idea.”
