Microsoft recently announced that the company will be launching the upcoming Office for Mac 2011 on October 26. The much awaited office suite is already available for pre-order at Amazon.com. The software will be available in Home and Student Edition (starting at $120), Home and Business editions (starting at $200) while also as separate purchases like Word for Mac 2011 ($140), Excel for Mac 2011 ($140) and PowerPoint for Mac 2011 ($140). There is also an Academic edition for students only, which starts at just $99.
Quite a few impressive changes have been added to the new Office. As per Microsoft, “One of the most visually impactful features in the new suite also is called Dynamic Reorder, it gives you the ability to interactively re-order all of the layers in a document or presentation – one of the ways that we are solving a very real customer need with a fun experience. The new suite also introduces a new view in Word 2011, Full Screen view which has two views: one optimized for writing and the other for reading. Allowing you to block out the distractions and focus on putting your idea on paper.”
As a side note, another impressive upgrade is the return of macro support for Excel power users (originally dropped in Office Mac:Excel 2008), that is also reported to much better than that of Office Mac:Excel 2004.
