October 6th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Design, Life

Most of us know the experience of an elevator ride but how about an elevator that takes you through a ride of heaven and hell? We are not trying to frighten you but want to refer to an installation, or to be precise, a moving mural that can be seen when one ascends or descends in the elevator of the Standard Hotel in New York City. The scintillating depiction by Marco Brambilla is titled Civilization. The production company associated with this creation is Crush from Toronto.[video below]

The moving collage comprises of a collection of “stock footage, movie footage and original clips” which has been assembled in such a way that it creates the fantastic impression. The movement of the canvas is adjusted to the speed of the elevator so as to avoid any motion sickness. The canvas can be seen looped, with hell following the heaven scenario, followed by hell again.
