BOTTLES UP, a boat constructed from discarded plastic bottles

November 28th, 2010 | No Comments | Posted in Design, Environment

No, it’s not a show-piece. It is actually a boat pieced together with discarded plastic bottles, and is meant to be boarded and navigated with paddles. Called the BOTTLES UP, it is said to be the first of its kind in Fiji. Owned by the Rain Tree Lodge located in Viti Levu, Fiji, the boat is the fruit of the combined effort of owner Tom and his employees.

Strong and sturdy enough to hold three men it can be seen in use in the adjacent lake of the resort. The success of the BOTTLES UP has also laid the foundation of building another form of water transport system, again to be built with plastic bottles, which would help farmers in moving their produce downstream to markets. The owner feels the news of these boats would motivate people of Fiji to rethink about discarded materials.
