The Egg House in China
Does it look like an igloo of the tropics? It is indeed a shelter and in fact is the dwelling of a graduate student named Daihai Fei who (with some assistance) built this unique economical home for under $1000.00.
Called the Egg House, it packs in the most basic necessities of daily life complete with light, bed, desk, water tank etc.The motivation behind this structure was his interest in building a home keeping in mind his architectural company’s strategies and philosophy.
The cozy home built of bamboo is an insulated structure bound on the outside by a waterproof material. The warm and comfortable look of the exterior is due to the piling of innumerable sacks of grass seed and saw dust on the waterproof layer. The purpose of using the grass seed is to cover it up in green during summer. The Egg House even has wheels to move it around. Come summer and well, it would be like ‘the green egg on wheels’!
