Recycled bike tread belts

January 17th, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in Environment

Gift it or pick one for yourself, these recycled Bike Tread Belts are sure to grab attention with their distinct forms. Handmade in Portland, Oregon, the belts come in a variety of patterns and three different sizes. Every belt made from recycled rubber uses a nickel plated steel buckle and is priced at $30.00.

Each belt is made from a different tire, so each one has a distinct pattern to its tread, even showing different levels of wear. The recycled tires can be from a road, hybrid, or mountain bike.

I have recently purchased on of these kind of belts. They are fantastic, then I done some othee research which led me to reading about the links to cancer of the bladder and rubber production. 1000s people die world wide with cancer who work with rubber because they handle rubber and the oils used to make rubber. The question I have and I am still trying find an answer to could these products prove a rise for the user and wearer ?
