Pick up after your dog or else PooPrints will track you down

July 18th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Life, Science

We definitely love our adorable pets but not the messy excreta they leave behind. Communities and apartments are thus adopting a service called PooPrints that identifies the dogs to fine the owners who fail to pick up after their pet.

PooPrints is a DNA matching technology developed by BioPet Vet Labs of Knoxville. The procedure includes registering of the dogs of a particular community based on their saliva samples. The sample is collected from the dog when a family moves in. Then it is sent to BioPet to be added to a database. When an offense is committed the management sends a sample to BioPet for identification [which takes about 3-4 days] after which the owner is charged with a hefty fine.

Such a serious action has been taken on the grounds of people being irrational and careless in keeping communities clean since dog waste presents a number of health hazards for both young and old. To know more visit pooprints.
