Living drawings made with bioluminescent bacteria

August 9th, 2011 | No Comments | Posted in Design, Science

Hunter Cole, a geneticist makes these amazing line drawings using bioluminescent bacteria. Bacteria cultures in a medium are allowed to grow in controlled lines which when reaches its peak makes the art visible. With time as the available nutrients are used up, the art gradually fades out [ as seen in the right hand pictures].

The paintings in order are: Her Own DNA, Mother, Rabbit, Plant Embryo. Also attached is a video showing step by step transformation of the Living Drawings.
