Star Wars characters for the first time will feature in a nation’s coins

We are quite aware of Star Wars themed products cropping up now and then but what we have here is set to make history. Star Wars characters for the very first time have been included in a country’s currency. Issued by the New Zealand Mint, Niue is the country to have these special coins in circulation.

The coins in 1 oz of pure silver featuring Star Wars characters [Luke Skywalker / Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi / Yoda, R2-D2 / C-3PO, Han Solo / Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Death Star, Stormtrooper] will be available in sets of 4 in distinctively two different cases; one in the likeness of DarthVader head and other as the the Millennium Falcon ship. Each silver coin with a trade value of $2.00 [£1] will be produced in limited numbers of 7500. “The obverse of the coin features The Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II sovereign of the commonwealth of Niue.” The set of four coins has been priced at $469.00 [£235]which could be pre-ordered to be shipped by November.
