Ever imagined an abode in the mountains far away from the hustle and bustle of city life? Most of us might have and for those dreamers we bring you this fantastic lodge that has been set up in the Alps!

Designed and created by Italian company LEAPfactory [Living, Ecological, Alpine Pod], this thrilling structure titled the New Refuge Gervasutti was conceived for providing mountaineers the necessary shelter and a place to revitalize. The modular structure was airlifted in parts and put together on site, into the breathtaking cantilever arrangement. While the jutted out portion imparts an exciting view for the onlookers, the inclusion of the deliberate red design was to make it easier for spotting.

The living pod at the colored end is fitted with a large window which faces the valley allowing ample light in the morning. The kitchen, table and seats are located alongside the window for enjoying a hearty meal with panoramic views. Bunk beds are located on the other end along with storage areas for tools and gears. The structure also has a monitoring station with web connectivity that provides information on the weather. Photovoltaic panels on the exterior takes care of the electricity needs.

The New Refuge Gervasuttiwas installed in mid October 2011 in Courmayeur (IT) on the Freboudze glacier, in front of the spectacular East face of the Grandes Jorasses of the Mont Blanc Range.
