Building shaky houses with playing cards is a fun activity, that we all might have attempted at some time or the other. Taking that very cue, the artist thought of holding onto that feeling of instability, by designing this House of Cards table.
The unnerving feeling of a shaky form, that is so much ingrained in our perception, is what makes this table so difficult to accept. Yes, who would balance anything atop a House of Cards, when a slight breeze is all that it needs to make it topple? Developing on this concept of constant conflict, it is the designer Mauricio Arruda, who has brought this amazing table to life.
The piece of furniture actually employs steel cards in the dimensions made to look like real playing cards, wherein the card faces have been printed on the plates. The steel plates are then welded to take the form of a typical card house, capable of holding different sized table tops. The card faces are chosen randomly to make every table unique.
