Apple iPhone commands a 72% smartphone market share in Japan

In 2009 out of the total 2.3 million smartphones sold in Japan, 1.69 million units were iPhone. That’s a huge number and turns out to be 72% of the total. While competitors have lost the market share share miserable, iPhone sales have actually doubled when compared to the same period last year. The second in the list is Taiwan based HTC with a distant 11%, while the third is Toshiba with just 6.8%.

Apple may include its own A4 processor in the upcoming iPhone HD

Apple is currently using Samsung manufactured Cortex-A8 processor for the iPhone 3GS. Even the original (iPhone 2G) and iPhone 3G were using a Samsung 32-bit RISC ARM processor. But a Korean newspaper reported that this may not be the case for the upcoming iPhone, better known as the iPhone HD. It seems Cupertino may be using its own variation of the new A4 processor for the new device. And this is certainly a bad news for Samsung.

It’s all over for Palm, company is actively seeking buyers

Palm, the company which was once pioneered Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and the more recent Pre, is now up for sale. We all knew about the company’s lackluster sales performance, but never quite realized that it will soon look for buyers. The company is currently working with Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and Qatalyst Partners to identify the potential buyers. It is being suspected that both Lenovo (China) and HTC (Taiwan) are highly interested in this bid.

The iPad sales currently exceed the 600,000 mark

As per the estimates from Chitika Research, an on-line advertising network which runs on over 80,000 websites world-wide, the current iPad sales may have exceeded the 600,000 mark. This estimate is based on the unique iPads connecting to the Chitika advertisement network. The company is currently putting the stats in real-time and seems to be fairly confident on the numbers. In fact Chitika says, that their estimate may be more accurate that Apple’s itself.

Apple sold over 300,000 iPads on the launch day

Apple reported that the company sold over 300,000 iPads by the end of Saturday (3rd April), which was the official launch day of the product. The number is an accumulation of all orders placed online, at Apple Stores and deliveries to all authorized retailers (e.g. BestBuy). That’s not all. Apple also reported that almost 1 million apps were downloaded on the same day while the total number of books downloaded was over 250,000 from the iBookstore.

Apple iPad pre-orders exceed 240,000 in just two weeks, are all hopes for the Amazon Kindle completely lost?

A recent estimate from investment blogger Daniel Tello indicates that Apple iPad pre-orders have surpassed the 240,000 mark, in just the first two weeks. The number exceeded 190,000 in the first week and then dropped to 120,000 in the second. Although it is likely that this number will probably decrease in the next week, 240,000+ is still an astounding number. After April 3rd, we will probably have a better picture as to where this trend is heading.

The world’s largest domain registration company GoDaddy.com ceases registration in China

In the midst of development of the Google vs. China saga, the world’s largest domain registration company GoDaddy.com ceased any further registration of domains in China. As per the company, this move is because of the increased monitoring of websites in China by the government. That’s not all, domain registration in the country now even requires extensive personal information and even a photograph of the registrant.
