Human Hair Makes Good Plant Fertilizer

New research shows that human hair can act as a good fertilizer for plants, especially like lettuce. Hair actually provides nitrogen for plants as it decomposes, in a very similar manner as like ammonia (used in actual fertilizers) does. It is widely known that all plants need nitrogen to grow.

Hubble detects Carbon Dioxide on Extra-Solar Planet

The search for extraterrestrial life has just made a pioneering discovery. The NASA based Hubble Space Telescope has detected the presence of carbon dioxide on a planet outside our solar system. Although this does not guarantee the presence of life on the planet, however it does increase the chance by a considerable extent.

New special fabric to wipe away toxic chemicals

A new type of wipe has been developed at Texas Tech University in Lubbock that can be used to deal with toxic chemicals especially on the battlefield. The fabric has an activated carbon core sandwiched between an absorbent layer on the top and bottom, which would find its use in the military, in removing harmful chemicals that soldiers have to deal with in a battle field. The product is named as “Fibertect”.

Science to save lives by genetically engineered peanuts

If you are allergic to peanuts there may be hope in the horizon. Horticulture expert Peggy Ozias-Akins from the University of Georgia at Tifton, is using genetic engineering to grow hypoallergenic peanuts. The reason ? This method has been successfully implemented…”to silence two of the genes responsible for the most common cause of fatal allergic reactions to food in the United States”…although a complete elimination of all allergens is not possible at this time.
