Ubuntu to get a new look and logo in version 10.04

Ubuntu is by far the most popular Linux distro ever. The operating system’s ease of use and reliability has resulted in now millions of fans worldwide. Now the next update, version 10.04 a.k.a. “Lucid Lynx”, will feature a complete new look with a new Ubuntu logo. The OS had the same looks for quite a while, which is about to change, finally.

The Babushka Lamp

You may have heard about and probably seen the nesting Matryoshka Dolls. Yes, the ones which are a group of dolls arranged in the decreasing order of size letting the largest one encase the whole series. With likeness to the famous Russian Dolls these are the Babushka table lamps that portray an effect as if a collection of such dolls were nested together.

MSN gets a face lift, Microsoft claims redesign is based on 70,000 customer’s feedback

Some of you may have already noticed the new spartan looks of MSN. Starting today, the Microsoft will begin rolling this new version of the portal to its U.S. based audience. The roll out will be complete for all its 100 million viewers over the next few weeks. Microsoft claims that the new look is based on the feedback from over 70,000 customers.

Zipper Pond in Taiwan

Isn’t it awesome! This gigantic zipper structure looks like an apt addition to the pond that magically brings out amusement and excitement, without which it would have been a simple ’stroll around’ park. A fantastic man made touch to the prevailing natural beauty makes it an amazing wonder.

Anamorphic Cups

How about welcoming a new morning with a cup of steaming hot coffee? Doesn’t it sound wonderful? So are these cups that wonderfully display messages using the phenomenon of reflection. They could add delight to your morning sips as you see the words appear and disappear when you keep the cup on the saucer and then move it away from it. Quite an amusing cup-saucer combo, these are the Anamorphic Cups that make distorted letters on the saucer appear as beautiful messages on the cup surface.

Nissan confirms 56,000 pre-orders for LEAF in the U.S. only, predicts more to come

When it comes to hybrid/plug-in hybrid/electric cars, Nissan was no where to be seen on the map. Honda and Toyota always dominated the U.S. as well as rest of the world in this domain. Looks like things are about to change. CEO Carlos Ghosn announced at the Geneva Auto Show that the company has received 56,000 pre-orders for LEAF from the U.S. alone. That’s huge considering that pre-orders from Europe and Japan hasn’t even started yet. LEAF, an abbreviation of “Leading, Environmentally Friendly, Affordable, Family” car is a true zero-emission vehicle that was originally announced by Nissan in 2009. The car is supposed to use a lithium-ion battery.

Corrugated Art sends a message to all of us

We have seen artists being inspired by nature in some form or the other, leading to the creation of fabulous pieces of art [like beehouse lamp, bloom lamp, stalac table]. These beautiful works [above and below] are also related to nature but in a different way. They have been created to support the cause of recycling, an important subject nowadays, that is aimed at lessening the harm inflicted by humans on nature.

Google buys DocVerse, tries harder to compete with Microsoft Office

Let’s face it. No matter how many office suites you have seen or used in any platform, honestly none can compete with the good old Microsoft Office. Even though Open Office is free and so is web-based/light-weight Google Docs, they are almost non-existent when it comes to the total number of office application users. But Google is not giving up. The company recently acquired DocVerse which offers true real-time online collaboration on Microsoft Office documents. This move might take Google Docs to a whole new level.
