The Atomium located in Brussels was built for the Brussels World’s Fair in 1958. Just as the name suggests, the structure actually depicts an iron crystal molecule magnified by 165 billion times. Although the monument was built as an exhibit for six months marking the atomic era, it still stands today as a major tourist attraction, symbolizing modern architecture and Brussels. The Atomium which comprises of nine steel spheres with connecting tubes was designed by engineer AndrĂ© Waterkeyn.
