Gold Nano-particles fight Cancer

Other than the fact Gold is expensive, it has proved to be an extremely useful element in the science of nanotechnology. Thanks to its chemical properties. Using gold nano-particles researchers at Case Western Reserve University have successfully tested a new delivery system, which accelerated the effect of cancer-fighting drugs from days to a few hours. DailyTech explains, “To accomplish this ultra-speedy delivery, researchers used gold nanoparticle vectors to deliver photodynamic therapy (PDT) drugs, a class of drugs that burn away cancer with light via wavelength energization, to tumors.

First completely artificial human heart in another 2.5 years

The first completely artificial heart will be available in just another 2.5 years! This would save the life of an estimated 20,000 patients a year. Leading heart transplant specialist Alain Carpentier, said that manufacturing would begin some time in 2011. The device is applicable for patients who have very serious heart conditions or have suffered massive heart attacks, for whom drug therapy or heart transplant have failed.
