Looks like an enactment of a beautiful story as if you were watching a movie. The subjects haven’t been painted but carved out from a leaf ! There were times when leaves (especially palm leaves) were used for centuries as a medium to write and paint long before paper came into use. Generations later, we see these again evolving, in which leaves have been carved to create some awesome artifacts.
Leaf carving is as you can understand a meticulous job, that involves manual cutting and removal of a leaf’s surface with specific tools, taking extreme care not to damage the veins. It’s a painstaking method involving months to achieve the desired result after which the leaves are preserved and framed. Chinar tree [found in India, Pakistan, China] leaves that resemble leaves of maple are mostly used in creating such artwork. For more such delicate works of art you might like to visit foliagesart.
