Solar Ivy is a solar energy harnessing system built of recyclable and sustainable materials that is meant to be used on building facades. The complete structure inspired by the ivy growth on buildings rests on a stainless steel mesh and involves photovoltaic technology and piezoelectrics.
Since the system is modular a number of customization is possible. The units not only can vary in number, spacing or orientation but given colors as well as per aesthetics is concerned. In addition to meeting the energy requirements [of a building] it also provides shade from the sun thus helping in reducing cooling costs. The presence of the flexible mesh allows the Solar Ivy to be installed on any shaped surface. Further on, it has application in advertising as well because the individual units could be sequenced or color coordinated to feature a company’s logo or name [as shown in the 4th picture].
Solar Ivy with a multitude of benefits can either function independently or in sync with other solar devices. The sustainable Solar Ivy comes from design company SMIT.
